Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) is a private university that was founded in 2002. Established under the UTAR Education Foundation, it is a not-for-profit organisation, bringing affordable and quality education to Malaysians.

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman has 2 campuses in Malaysia — Kampar (Perak) and Sungai Long (Selangor).

UTAR’s Sungai Long campus is a 10-storey purpose-built facility located in the Bandar Sungai Long township. This brand new city campus consolidates UTAR’s many faculties and disciplines, making it a vibrant student hub.

UTAR’s other campus in Kampar, Perak has wide and spacious campus grounds, complete with lakes and scenic mountains. Built on 520 hectares of ex-mining land, the stunning panoramic views creates a conducive environment for both studying and fun activities.

Over 110 programmes are offered across both campuses, including Foundation, Degree and Postgraduate courses. UTAR covers a diverse range of fields, including Business & Economics, Actuarial Science, Engineering, Medicine and even Chinese Studies.

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman has achieved many awards since its inception, notably ranking as one of the Top 300 universities in Asia in 2012 and 2013 by QS World University Rankings: Asia. UTAR is also rated ‘Tier 5: Excellent‘ by the Ministry of Higher Education (MQA SETARA 2013).

UTAR Sungai Long Campus Location

The Sungai Long campus is situated in the Bandar Sungai Long residential township that’s just 20 minutes away from KL City Centre.

This brand new campus is a consolidation of UTAR’s campuses in Petaling Jaya, Setapak and Kuala Lumpur, allowing students to experience a vibrant student community with many programmes all under one roof.

The Sungai Long township provides affordable accommodation for students, with many eateries, banking and other amenities around the vicinity.

Getting Around

  • Shuttle Buses: Regular bus service is available for students to travel to and from campus, covering selected neighbourhoods, train stations and bus stops.
  • Public Transport: Easily accessible via RapidKL and Metro buses. Taxis are available as well.
  • Parking: Parking spaces are available around the campus.

UTAR Kampar Campus Location

UTAR’s Kampar campus is located off the North-South highway, with scenic mountains and lakes for a beautiful, conducive environment.

The campus sits on over 500 hectares of land, housing various facilities for sports and extra-curricular activities. A unique feature of the Kampar campus is the large number of students bustling around on bicycles, one of the most popular modes of transport.

Kampar New Town (or Bandar Baru Kampar) is located near the campus, and has many amenities, such as shopping mall, hypermarkets including Tesco and Giant, and a wide range of eateries.

Accommodation at UTAR

UTAR Sungai Long Campus: Off-Campus Accommodation

The Sungai Long campus is surrounded by residential condominiums and terrace houses. Rental rates are very affordable to cater to student needs. If you are concerned about safety, you can opt to stay in condominiums, which are guarded 24/7 and has facilities such as swimming pools and gyms.

UTAR Kampar Campus: Off-Campus Accommodation

Similar to UTAR Sungai Long, the accommodation at Kampar is also off-campus. Various options are available, with most located within walking (or cycling) distance from the campus. Some options include Westlake Homes, Taman Mahsuri Impian, Taman Kampar Perdana and The Trails of Kampar. Rent just one room or share the whole house — it’s entirely up to you!
