Job Summary:
The successful candidates is responsible for leading and managing the Tax Unit, ensuring full compliance with statutory tax requirements, optimising tax efficiency, and providing strategic tax advice to support business objectives. This role oversees all direct and indirect tax matters and acts as the key liaison with tax authorities, auditors, and external advisors.
Responsibilities:
1. Tax Compliance & Reporting
· Oversee and ensure timely and accurate submission of all statutory tax filings, including but not limited to:
o Corporate Income Tax
o SST / GST (if applicable)
o Stamp Duty
o Other statutory tax returns and declarations
· Review tax computations, schedules, and supporting documents prepared by the Assistant Tax Manager.
· Ensure compliance with the Income Tax Act, SST Act, Stamp Duty Act and other relevant tax legislation.
2. Tax Planning & Advisory
· Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimise the Group’s tax position while ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
· Provide tax advisory support to management on business transactions, contracts, restructurings, and new initiatives.
· Assess tax risks and recommend mitigation measures.
3. Tax Audit & Authority Liaison
· Act as the primary contact person for tax authorities (e.g. LHDN, RMCD).
· Manage and lead tax audits, investigations, and queries from tax authorities.
· Coordinate responses, prepare supporting documentation, and negotiate settlements where applicable.
4. Team Leadership & Supervision
· Lead and manage the Tax Unit, providing guidance, coaching, and technical support to the junior staff.
· Review work output to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to timelines.
· Support staff development and knowledge sharing within the tax function.
5. Policies, Processes & Governance
· Support HOD / Deputy HOD in strategizing department level plan, workflow and measurable target.
· Establish, review, and enhance tax policies, SOPs, and internal controls to ensure effective tax governance.
· Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping to support tax filings and audits.
· Keep abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the organisation.
6. Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Support
· Work closely with other departments to ensure tax matters are properly addressed.
· Support external auditors on tax-related matters during annual audits.
· Engage external tax consultants where necessary and review their deliverables.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CA, or equivalent is mandatory.
Minimum 5 years of progressive finance, accounting or auditing experience, with at least 3 years in tax related experience, including managerial or supervisory exposure.
Strong hands-on experience in Malaysian taxation; experience in group or corporate tax is an advantage.
Strong knowledge of Malaysian tax legislation and compliance requirements.
Sound excel skills.

High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
