FAQs about Studying a CAT Qualification in Malaysia

What is CAT?

CAT stands for Certified Accounting Technician, a stand-alone qualification that paves the way for you to pursue an ACCA qualification which will lead you to a career as a Chartered Certified Accountant.

The CAT qualification will equip you with a strong foundation in accounting skills and knowledge needed to solve basic accounting problems and provide accounting support. There will also be a series of professional examinations that you will need to pass.

A CAT qualification will increase your employment opportunities and give higher assurance to employers about your accounting proficiency.

What are the minimum entry requirements for a CAT qualification?

In order to pursue a CAT qualification, you will need to have at least an SPM qualification or an equivalent qualification.

The minimum requirements that you’ll need to meet are at least 5 credits (C and above) including English and Mathematics at SPM, O-Level or equivalent.

What is your education pathway if you study for a CAT qualification?

A CAT qualification usually takes between 1 to 1.5 years to complete. However, there is no restriction on the number of papers you can attempt in a single sitting.
