With over 400 private colleges in Malaysia, choosing one can be an overwhelming task.

Which college has the best lecturers?

Which has the best facilities and campus environment?

Which one produces the best graduates?

And while there are world rankings for universities, there isn’t an equivalent for colleges.

But did you know that there’s a rating system for private colleges in Malaysia?

Called MyQUEST (or “Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private Colleges”), it is a system developed by the Ministry of Higher Education to evaluate the performance of private colleges in Malaysia, and improve the quality of education provided.

"College" vs. "university" in Malaysia: In general, "colleges" offer pre-university programmes (e.g. A-Level, Australian Matriculation, etc.) and degrees awarded by external universities, usually universities from abroad. On the other hand, institutions with the "university" status award their own degrees.

In the past, participation has been voluntary but effective 30 October 2015, it will be compulsory for all private colleges to participate in the MyQUEST evaluation.

The latest MyQUEST 2014/2015 results saw a marked improvement in performance, with several colleges achieving 6-STAR ratings (the highest rating possible) for as many as 8 categories.

Here is the summary of the MyQUEST 2014/2015 results (source here).
