Bioscience is a study of living organisms.
The field of Bioscience typically ranges from the study of small living organisms such as microbes and plants to animals and human beings. This field is the main core of many innovative breakthroughs, from drugs and medicine to alternative energy!
There are a number of popular disciplines in Bioscience, particularly Biomedical Science, Biotechnology and Biochemistry. Each field specialises in a specific area, with Biomedical Science focusing on the human body, Biotechnology covering living organisms in technology, and Biochemistry emphasising on chemical processes in living organisms.
A Degree in Bioscience will equip you with the appropriate research and development skills and industry-relevant knowledge to continue to improve and provide sustainable living conditions to all living things.
To pursue a Degree in Bioscience, the typical entry requirements are:
- A-Level: Minimum 2Cs, including Chemistry and Biology / Physics; or
- STPM: Minimum 2Cs, including Chemistry and Biology / Physics; or
- Australian Matriculation: Minimum of ATAR 65; or
- Foundation in Science: Minimum CGPA of 2.5; or
- Relevant Diploma: Minimum CGPA of 2.75
You may also need to have 5 credits (C and above) at SPM, O-Level or equivalent, where 3 of the subjects must be from either Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or English.
That said, the entry requirements may vary depending on the university, so be sure to do your research!
To pursue a Degree in Bioscience, you need to have an SPM qualification or equivalent and a Pre-U qualification. You must also meet the minimum entry requirements of the university.
A Degree in Bioscience is usually 3 – 4 years long, depending on the discipline you take.
Upon completing a Degree in Bioscience, you will have several options:
- Enter the workforce immediately; or
- Pursue postgraduate studies in the relevant fields
If you are interested in research and development work, you will almost always need a Masters qualification and above.
