A student from Nexus International School, Gerard Ong, has achieved an exceptional feat in the 2023 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme examinations by scoring a perfect 45 points, placing him among an exclusive league of only 179 students worldwide.
Securing the prestigious title of “Top in the World”, Gerard has also rightfully earned 6 university offers from top institutions in the USA, Canada and the UK, along with 9 scholarships worth over USD360,000. During his IB experience, Gerard was actively involved in the school’s various programmes, taking up leadership roles in the Student Council and winning a Best Press Piece award at the Nanyang Technological University's Model United Nations (NTUMUN) 2022.
Expressing his gratitude, Gerard stated, "Achieving the perfect score of 45 has been a surreal experience and, honestly speaking, was an achievement I didn't expect. However, this showed me that my resilience and hard work during the past 2 years have paid off. At Nexus, I was also able to take advantage of the myriad of co-curricular opportunities that complemented my academic studies. I believe such holistic education provided a good work-life balance that was, ultimately, the key to my success.”
Amidst this celebration of Gerard Ong, Nexus also saw another shining star, Ng Yong Whye, achieve 44 points, just 1 point shy of the maximum score possible. Meanwhile, Hur Jeeahn, an international student from Korea who had been with Nexus since early years (kindergarten), scored an outstanding 41 points and has an offer to the prestigious Yonsei University in Korea.
With this year’s results, Nexus continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the world's leading IB schools. The remarkable average score of 34.1, surpassing the world average of 30.24, and 9 learners achieving 40 points and above, are a testament to the exceptional academic standards at Nexus.
