In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, cybersecurity has become a paramount concern for businesses of all sizes. However, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) often find themselves particularly vulnerable to cyber threats, lacking the resources and expertise to adequately protect their digital assets. Recognising this pressing need, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU)’s Forensics and Cyber Security Research Centre (FSeC) has launched a groundbreaking initiative to support SMEs in managing their cybersecurity risks through Cybersecurity as a Service (CaaS).

Led by Professor Ir. Eur. Ing. Ts. Dr. Vinesh Thiruchelvam, APU’s Chief Innovation and Enterprise Officer and Advisor of the FSeC , CaaS aims to provide SMEs with cost-effective yet high-quality consultancy services in cybersecurity. The initiative was established in response to the increasing frequency and sophistication of cyberattacks, which pose significant threats to SMEs' competitiveness, credit rating and overall resilience.

FSeC-CaaS offers a comprehensive range of cybersecurity services tailored to the specific needs of SMEs. These include penetration testing, security audits, network configuration and forensic analysis, among others. The initiative leverages the expertise of a dedicated team of cybersecurity professionals, supported by top-performing students from APU’s Cybersecurity Bachelor and Master’s degree programs. This unique collaboration ensures that SMEs receive cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions grounded in academic excellence and real-world experience.

One of the notable success stories of FSeC-CaaS is its collaboration with Pixalink Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian SME specialising in cloud-based customer acquisition software. After completing a penetration test, Pixalink's CEO, Mr. Eddie Chong, lauded FSeC-CaaS for its "impeccable serviceability”. This endorsement underscores the initiative's effectiveness in delivering practical and impactful cybersecurity solutions to SMEs.

Beyond academia, FSeC-CaaS also plays a pivotal role in addressing market demands for highly qualified cybersecurity professionals. By providing professional training programmes to APU students, the initiative not only equips the next generation of cybersecurity experts with practical skills but also helps bridge the gap between academic learning and industry needs.
