• All applicants should hold an MSc or first class MEng recognised by the Malaysian government and deemed acceptable by the University
• Occasionally, candidates holding a first class BEng Hons or BSc Hons may be admitted if they also have significant research experience
• Some PhD students will be invited to interview prior to a formal offer being made

Supporting documents

• Applicants should also submit the following:
  • Copies of full academic transcripts from all previous academic degree courses and copies of certificates for degrees already awarded
  • A detailed research proposal

• The minimum English language requirement for entry to this programme is IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) with no score lower than 6.0

• If applicant does not have IELTS 6.5, Pre-Sessional English Programme (PSEP) is an academic English preparatory course especially designed to help meet the English entry requirements for the Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia
