Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) is once again in the spotlight in the recent International Unram Accounting Competition, where three students from TAR UMT Penang secured 2nd place in the competition organised by the University of Mataram, Indonesia.

Beh Yu Jun, Wong Yee Ying and Lau Ke Ning from the Bachelor of Business (Hons) Accounting and Finance programme faced 68 teams from Indonesia, Malaysia and Canada. The competition tested participants' knowledge in various topics including management accounting, IT, financial accounting and financial management.

For Wong Yee Ying, the experience was much more than just a competition, describing it as an eye-opening opportunity to travel to Indonesia and connect with students from across the world. She shared, “It was a unique opportunity to travel to Indonesia and meet fellow accounting students from different countries. The chance to exchange ideas and experiences with peers from diverse backgrounds was incredibly inspiring and invaluable for both my personal and professional growth.”

However, like other participants, the students encountered obstacles, particularly when facing unfamiliar questions and financial constraints that added pressure to their journey. Beh Yu Jun shared their strategy to overcome these challenges and thanked their lecturers for providing unwavering support and guidance throughout the competition, “Our strategy was to focus on task delegation, ensuring each team member contributed to the collective goal. We could not have achieved this success without our lecturers’ tremendous support in guiding and helping us to prepare for the competition. Their encouragement meant a lot to us.”

Despite the challenges and obstacles, the students from TAR UMT Penang persevered and gave their all during the competition, eventually earning second place through their hard work. Their achievement not only underlined their academic skills but also highlighted the value of teamwork, determination and hard work. This international achievement is a pivotal moment for TAR UMT and a testament to the potential of its students to achieve success on a global stage.
