Malaysian 3D digital game artist Lam Kar Chun, also known as KC, of Clazroom College recently brought home the Medal for Excellence in 3D Digital Game Art at the WorldSkills Competition Shanghai 2026, which put his skills to the test against young talents from around the world.

This global achievement followed two major successes at previous WorldSkills competitions held at the regional level. In 2025, KC won a Gold Medal and Best of Nation recognition for Malaysia at WorldSkills ASEAN Manila, before going on to win another Gold Medal at WorldSkills Asia Taipei 2025. This year at the global competition in Shanghai, he continued his strong performance by earning the Medal for Excellence.

The Shanghai competition was also significant for Malaysia as it marked the country's first participation in 3D Digital Game Art at the global WorldSkills Competition, with KC serving as Malaysia's first competitor in the category.

KC's journey was supported by a wider team throughout his development. Clazroom College Principal Mr Wong Jin Min and Managing Director Ms Tung Yan Ning played key roles in supporting the college's WorldSkills journey and creating opportunities for students and educators to develop their skills internationally. The lecturers also contributed as Malaysia's National Expert and Coach for 3D Digital Game Art preparation, working closely with KC.

The achievement was further supported by coaches, experts, educators, JPK and Malaysia's wider WorldSkills community. Together, these opportunities equipped KC with the training, mentorship and technical skill set needed to progress from regional competitions to the global stage.

KC's journey, while exceptional, is proof of how much a creative interest can flourish when supported by education, mentorship, and opportunities to apply those skills. His progression from developing his craft as a young 3D artist in Malaysia to earning a Medal for Excellence at a global skills competition demonstrates the possibilities that lie ahead for students aspiring to turn their interests into expertise.

For students deciding what to pursue after secondary school, and for parents supporting those decisions, KC's success offers this valuable insight, “What a young person loves creating today may be the beginning of a future they have not yet imagined.”
