Entry Requirements

  • STPM:
    • Malaysian citizen
    • Obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.80
    • Obtain a minimum of grade A- in TWO (2) subjects (Biology & Chemistry) and grade A- in one (1) subject: Physics, Additional Mathematics or Mathematics
    • Stream: Science stream
  • Matriculation / Foundation:
    • Malaysian citizen
    • Obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.80
    • Obtain a minimum of grade A- in TWO (2) subjects (Biology & Chemistry) and grade A- in one (1) subject: Physics, Additional Mathematics or Additional Mathematics
    • Obtain a minimum of grade A- in these FIVE (5) subjects at the SPM level: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics and English Language
    • Stream: Art and Science stream
  • Diploma / Equivalent (requirement 1: STPM from a non-current year) – (Open under Channel One Only)
    • Malaysian citizen
    • Obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.80
    • Obtain a minimum of grade A- in these TWO (2) subjects at the STPM level: Biology & Chemistry and grade A- in one (1) subject: Physics, Additional Mathematics or Additional Mathematics
  • Diploma / Equivalent (requirement 2: Matriculation/Foundation from a non-current year) – (Open under Channel One Only)

    • Obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.80

  • UM SATU Foundation:
    • Malaysian citizen
    • Obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.80
    • Obtain a minimum of grade A- in these TWO (2) subjects at the UM SATU Foundation level: Biology & Chemistry and grade A- in one (1) subject: Physics, Mathematics
    • Obtain a minimum of grade A- in these FIVE (5) subjects at the SPM level: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics and English Language
  • GCE A-Level:
    • Malaysian citizen
    • Obtain a recognized GCE A-Level qualification
    • Obtain a minimum of grade A in these THREE (3) subjects at the (A-level): 
      • Biology
      • Chemistry 
      • Physics / Mathematics
  • International Baccalaureate (IB):
    • Malaysian citizen
    • Obtain a minimum score of 36 points
    • Obtained at least Grade 6 (HL) or Grade 5 (SL) in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics
    • Obtain a minimum of grade A- in FIVE (5) subjects at the SPM level/equivalent or O-Level: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, and English Language
  • AUSMAT:
    • Malaysian citizen
    • Obtain a minimum score of 90 in the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR)
    • Obtain a minimum of grade A in THREE (3) subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics
    • Obtain a minimum of grade A- in FIVE (5) subjects at the SPM level or equivalent: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics and English Language
  • Bachelor's Degree Programme (SATU):
    • Malaysian citizen
    • Obtained a minimum CGPA of 3.70 at the Bachelor's degree level in Science or Applied Science from any institution recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC)

Additional Requirement:

  • Obtained results from the MSAT-Malaysia / BMAT / GAMSAT / MCAT examination or other equivalent qualifications approved by the University Senate for the current or previous year, according to the level set by the Faculty
  • Certified to be free from physical disabilities and serious mental illnesses, serious infectious diseases, and has never been convicted of any criminal activities that may have implications as a medical practitioner. Failure to provide valid and accurate information, especially regarding personal health as a medical practitioner, may result in the application being rejected and/or termination of studies in this field.
  • Interview is required for this course
  • Test is required for this course
  • Obtain a minimum of Band 4.0 in MUET for examinations starting from Session 1 of the year 2021, or Band 4.0 for examinations up to the year 2020, according to the validity period on the date of application
  • Applicants without MUET but with the following results may be considered for conditional admission, provided they fulfil MUET requirement within ONE (1) academic session:
    • IELTS (Academic) Band 6 overall;
    • TOEFL iBT (Centre-based) minimum score of 78

Elective Term

  • Elective Term is placed prior to the beginning of Stage 3.2 and the Pre-Internship Term (PRINT) is at the end of Stage 3.3
  • Provide students who have successfully completed the MIA 3001: Practice of Clinical Medicine (Stage 3.1) course an opportunity to gain further exposure in clinical, community or research areas in another institution in Malaysia or overseas
  • Students may choose an elective placement that is organised by Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya or you may determine your own placement
  • At the end of the Elective Term you are required to submit a written report
  • In an event if you are required to repeat a posting during the Elective period in Stage 3.1, you may be given an opportunity to undertake Elective posting at the end of Stage 3.2
