RUMC’s Bachelor of Science in Medical Informatics is designed for individuals passionate about integrating healthcare and information technology.

This programme equips students with skills to revolutionise medical instrumentation and precision medicine, improving patient outcomes and system efficiency.
Covering healthcare delivery models, EHRs, telemedicine, and ethical considerations, graduates are prepared for diverse careers.
Located in Penang, Malaysia, a MedTech hub, the programme offers industry placements and links to post-graduate opportunities in Ireland and the United States.

Medical informatics is a multidisciplinary field that integrates software, hardware, instruments, and the Internet to advance healthcare.

It combines principles from computer science, biology, engineering, and healthcare to develop and optimise technologies for medical applications.
This field emphasises the use of advanced medical devices and technologies to enhance diagnosis and treatment, and harnesses cutting-edge tools to solve complex medical problems.
By leveraging emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and 5G, medical informatics aims to revolutionise healthcare management and improve patient outcomes.
The programme blends medicine, programming, and healthcare, covering essential subjects such as Foundations in Medicine, Computer Architecture, and Health Informatics Fundamentals.
It includes advanced topics like Artificial Intelligence in Health, Medical Internet of Things, and Medical Imaging.
Students also gain practical experience through internships and industry placements, concluding with an Undergraduate Project.

STPM: Pass with a minimum Grade of C (GP 2.00) in any TWO (2) subjects AND Credit in Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent¹.
STAM: Pass with a minimum Grade of Jayyid in any TWO (2) subjects. AND Credit in Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent¹.
Matriculation / Foundation Studies: Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.00. AND Credit in Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent¹.
Diploma (Level 4, MQF) in Non-Computing: Minimum CGPA of 2.75**. AND Credit in Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent¹.
Diploma in Computing fields (Level 4, MQF) or equivalent: Minimum CGPA of 2.50##.
Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM) / Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM) in Computing fields: Minimum CGPA of 2.50 subjected to Senate / Academic Board’s approval.
Diploma Lanjutan Kemahiran Malaysia (DLKM) in Computing fields: Minimum CGPA of 2.50 subjected to Senate / Academic Board’s approval.

Notes:

¹Candidates with a pass in Mathematics in SPM or/equivalent can join the programme, provided that the candidate has taken Mathematics at Foundation/Matriculation level. This will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
* Students with CGPA 2.00-2.49 may apply to the programme and admission will be considered on a case-to-case basis.
** Candidates with a CGPA below 2.75 but more than 2.50 can be admitted subject to a rigorous assessment.
