Academic entry pathways (complete at least one of the following)

• Bachelor's degree requiring at least four years of full-time study, and which normally includes a research component in the fourth year with upper H2B (a mark of 65 or above) in an honours year in a relevant field
• Master's degree in a relevant field that entails work, normally including a significant research component, at least equivalent to an honours degree (a 'significant research component' in a master's degree will vary from discipline to discipline). It is normally expected that at a minimum, a grade of upper 2B (with an overall mark of at least 65 or above) has been obtained for the research thesis or project. Where ungraded, examiners' reports will be taken into account.
• Qualifications which in the opinion of the Graduate Research Committee are deemed equivalent

Approved English language tests (Science)

• IELTS/IELTS One Skill Retake overall 6.5 with Reading 6, Listening 6, Speaking 6 and Writing 6, taken at an Academic Test Centre and less than 2 years old
• TOEFL (internet-based) from 21 January 2026 overall 4 with Reading 3.5, Listening 3, Speaking 3.5 and Writing 4.5, taken at a Test Centre and less than 2 years old
• TOEFL (internet-based) prior to 21 January 2026 overall 79 with Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18 and Writing 21, taken at a Test Centre and less than 2 years old
• Pearson Test of Academic English overall 58 with Reading 50, Listening 50, Speaking 50 and Writing 50, taken at an Academic Test Centre and less than 2 years old
• C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge English) overall 176 with Reading 169, Listening 169, Speaking 169 and Writing 169, taken at a Test Centre and less than 2 years old
• Note: Tests must be taken at an official test centre and home-based or online test formats are not accepted. Test results must be valid at the time of application, meaning no more than two years old.

Alternative ways to meet the requirement

• Applicants may meet the requirement through a tertiary qualification of at least two years' full-time duration taught and assessed entirely in English, with Monash University qualifications (Australia, Malaysia or Indonesia campus) required to be a formal tertiary qualification completed within five years of application
• Applicants may complete the Monash English Program where their English test result does not quite meet the minimum, with the Standard program applying to Science

Note: A one-year full-time qualification taught and assessed entirely in English at Monash University must be completed within two years of application
