Standard entry

• A bachelor's degree of at least four years in a relevant discipline, which includes a research thesis or project, with a minimum overall average grade of an honours degree equivalent to the Second Class Honours Division B with mark of 65 or above
• A master's degree in a relevant discipline which includes a research thesis or project equivalent to at least 25 percent of one year of full-time study, with a minimum overall average grade of an honours degree equivalent to the Second Class Honours Division B with mark of 65 or above
• A qualification, or combination of qualifications and relevant professional experience, deemed equivalent by the GRC (or delegate)

English language requirements (Monash University Malaysia)

• Students must submit full documentary evidence in support of English proficiency with application for candidature

• If first language is not English, or where degree qualifications were not undertaken in the English language, Monash reserves the right to seek further documentary evidence of English proficiency

Minimum test scores for graduate research (Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences)

• IELTS/IELTS One Skill Retake: overall 6.5 with 6.0 in reading, listening, speaking and writing
• TOEFL (internet-based) from 21 January 2026: overall 4 with reading 3.5, listening 3, speaking 3.5 and writing 4.5
• TOEFL (internet-based) prior to 21 January 2026: overall 79 with reading 13, listening 12, speaking 18 and writing 21
• Pearson Test of Academic English: overall 65 is required for Arts, Business and Economics, Education and Law, while 58 with 50 in each skill applies to Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences
• C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge English): overall 176 with no skill below 169

Notes:

• Tests must be taken at an official test centre, home-based or online test formats are not accepted, and results must be no more than two years old
• Applicants may alternatively meet the requirement through prior tertiary study of at least two years' full-time duration taught and assessed entirely in English, subject to the published recency conditions
