Standard entry

• A bachelor's degree of at least four years in a relevant discipline, which includes a research thesis or project, with a minimum overall average grade of an honours degree equivalent to the Second Class Honours Division A
• A master's degree in a relevant discipline which includes a research thesis or project equivalent to at least 25 percent of one year of full-time study, with a minimum overall average grade of honours equivalent to the Second Class Honours Division A
• A qualification, or combination of qualifications and relevant professional experience, deemed equivalent by the GRC (or delegate)

English language proficiency requirements for admission (graduate research)

• Advanced degrees, including Master's by Research and Doctoral programs, require a high level of English language proficiency
• Applicants from Monash-approved English-speaking countries who have successfully completed tertiary studies taught and assessed entirely in English are generally considered to meet the English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements
• Under the minimum requirements band covering Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences, IELTS/IELTS One Skill Retake requires an overall result of 6.5 with 6 in reading, listening, speaking and writing
• TOEFL (internet-based) from 21 January 2026 requires an overall result of 4 with reading 3.5, listening 3, speaking 3.5 and writing 4.5
• TOEFL (internet-based) prior to 21 January 2026 requires an overall result of 79 with reading 13, listening 12, speaking 18 and writing 21
• Pearson Test of Academic English requires an overall result of 58 with 58 in reading, listening, speaking and writing
• C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge English) requires an overall result of 176 with 169 in reading, listening, speaking and writing
• Tests must be taken at an official test centre and home-based or online test formats are not accepted
• Test results must be valid at the time of application and no more than two years old
• You may meet the English language proficiency requirements if you have completed a tertiary qualification of at least two years' full-time duration, within the published timeframe, that was taught and assessed entirely in English
• Applicants may be able to complete the Monash English Program where their English test result doesn't quite meet the minimum outlined
