Standard entry

• A bachelor's degree of at least four years in a relevant discipline, which includes a research thesis or project, with a minimum overall average grade of an honours degree equivalent to the Second Class Honours Division A; or
• A master's degree in a relevant discipline which includes a research thesis or project equivalent to at least 25 percent of one year of full-time study, with a minimum overall average grade of honours equivalent to the Second Class Honours Division A; or
• A qualification, or combination of qualifications and relevant professional experience, deemed equivalent by the GRC (or delegate)

School of Information Technology graduate research entry (course code 0190)

• A bachelor's degree of at least four years' full-time study, normally including a research component in the fourth year, or an equivalent course as rated by the faculty, or a master's degree that comprises a significant research component
• Minimum equivalent to H2A

Monash graduate research English language proficiency (Information Technology faculty grouping)

• IELTS/IELTS One Skill Retake (Academic test centre) with overall 6.5 and minimum 6.0 in reading, listening, speaking and writing
• TOEFL (internet-based) from 21 January 2026 with overall 4 and minimum reading 3.5, listening 3, speaking 3.5 and writing 4.5
• TOEFL (internet-based) prior to 21 January 2026 with overall 79 and minimum reading 13, listening 12, speaking 18 and writing 21
• Pearson Test of Academic English with overall 58 and minimum 50 in each skill
• C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge English) with overall 176 and no skill below 169
• Test results must be valid at the time of application and no more than two years old
• Tests must be taken at an official test centre, and home-based or online test formats are not accepted

Notes:

• Applicants may instead meet the requirement through prior tertiary study of at least two years' full-time duration taught and assessed entirely in English, subject to the published recency conditions
• The Monash English page states that the Malaysian Government also sets a minimum English language requirement for each Monash University degree and that the higher requirement applies where it exceeds the Monash English requirement
