What is Industrial Design?
Industrial Design is the process of designing that is applied to products being manufactured through mass production.
Industrial Design seeks to address the needs of product design to be both creative and practical – in terms of logistics, physical limitations and financial feasibility. This field often provides design solutions to problems related to product appearance, function, ergonomics, marketing and branding.
A Degree in Industrial Design will equip you with the in-depth knowledge of design technologies and processes. You will also learn about the different design methodologies that are applied in various industries and product types.
What are the minimum entry requirements for an Industrial Design Degree?
To pursue a Degree in Industrial Design, the typical entry requirements are:
- A-Level: Minimum 2Es; or
- STPM: Minimum 2Cs; or
- Australian Matriculation: Minimum of ATAR 60; or
- Foundation in Arts or Design: Minimum CGPA of 2.0; or
Most universities may also conduct a portfolio review or assessment prior to accepting you for their Industrial Design course. That being said, the entry requirements can still vary depending on the university, so be sure to do your research!

To pursue a Degree in Industrial Design, you need to have an SPM qualification or equivalent and a Pre-U qualification. You must also meet the minimum entry requirements of the university.
