Taylor’s University Triumphs at the Anugerah Khas YB Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi 2024

Taylor’s University School of Architecture, Building and Design has recently earned top honours at the Anugerah Khas YB Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi (AKRI 2024), securing the 1st Prize in the Innovative Curriculum Category. 

The Anugerah Khas YB Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi (AKRI) is an initiative by Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education to recognise and promote innovation in curriculum design and teaching methods at higher education institutions. The award highlights initiatives that showcase creativity and effectiveness in preparing competitive, future-ready graduates.

The award-winning project by Taylor’s University titled “Future Ready Architects: Transforming Lives, Empowering Changemakers” aims to equip students with the crucial skills and knowledge required to tackle the issues in architecture and urban design fields. The project was developed by a team of expert and talented educators, including Associate Professor Dr Veronica Ng Foong Peng, Mohd Adib Bin Ramli, Dr Fitizani Illia Ibrahim and Ts Bashira Mohd Bahar. The team was awarded RM10,000, a trophy and a certificate of appreciation for their exceptional achievement. 

Professor Dr David Asirvatham, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Innovation and Technology at Taylor’s, expressed pride in the accomplishment, stating, “As the top-ranked private university in Malaysia and Southeast Asia for Architecture & Built Environment in the 2024 QS Subject Rankings, we take immense pride in this achievement, reflecting our dedication to innovation and excellence in education.”

Emphasising the signficiant impact of the award, he added, “This accolade affirms our commitment to nurturing visionary thinkers and change-makers. We equip our students with essential skills and creativity to tackle the critical challenges of tomorrow’s architectural landscape. Our collaboration with industry experts ensures that our curriculum remains relevant and that students are proficient in industry-standard technologies.” 

Taylor’s also claimed 3rd Place in the Transformative Teaching Category for the project, "Revolutionise Teaching and Elevate Meta-competencies using THRIVE Model: Purpose-led Learning for a Sustainable Future”. The team, led by Dr Aqliah Yaacob, Dr Chan Sook Wah, Ms Affezah Ali, Dr Karen Tsen Mung Khie and Dr Leow Yen Mee, received RM3,000, a trophy and a certificate of appreciation. 

In addition to these achievements, the institution was also recognised as a finalist for another impactful project, “Purpose-Led and Impact-Driven Project: My Bamboo & GreenBliss Fiesta”. This project underscores Taylor’s commitment to sustainability and community-focused education, further solidifying their position as the leader in progressive education in Malaysia.
