Two students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) have made their mark on the international stage after clinching top awards at the Supply Chain and Logistics (SLOG) Challenge 2026.

Representing Malaysia in the competition, Yong Sheng Qi and Koo Zhong Qi, who are both pursuing a Bachelor in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (Hons), brought home the Champion and Third Prize titles respectively. The final round of the competition was held on 24 June 2026 at Van Lang University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The SLOG Challenge is designed to promote international collaboration and cultural exchange among students in the field of logistics and supply chain management. Participants were grouped into multinational teams and tasked with analysing complex case studies, developing strategies and presenting their solutions to a panel of judges. For many, the experience offered valuable exposure to different perspectives and working styles.

For Sheng Qi, working alongside teammates from various nationalities proved to be both challenging and rewarding. He commented, “My teammates were from Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, so we all had very different approaches and understanding about how to solve the task. It taught me the importance of clear communication, especially with others from diverse backgrounds, to work together cohesively. Thanks to that, we managed to come to a unified understanding about the case problem and formulated a solution that all of us were confident in. I believe our cohesive teamwork was instrumental in our success as a team.”

Zhong Qi, who collaborated with students from Taiwan and Vietnam, also found the experience enriching. Crediting his academic training at TAR UMT, he shared, “My lecturers, especially Dr Chong Chu Le, ensured that I was well-versed in the theories to strengthen my basic knowledge and provided an environment that encouraged me to solve real industry problems. Those lessons gave me a strong foundation that was instrumental to my performance and contribution to the team doing so well in such a highly competitive international competition.”

Their achievements highlight not only their individual capabilities but also the versatility of TAR UMT’s curriculum in equipping students with both theoretical knowledge and practical problem-solving skills. As industries become increasingly globalised, experiences like the SLOG Challenge play an important role in preparing students for the realities of the workforce.
