IEM Honors APU’s Mechatronic Engineering Graduate With Gold Medal Award

Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU)’s Chong Wei Lun, a graduate of the Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronic Engineering with Honours programme, has earned the esteemed Gold Medal Award 2022 from the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). The IEM Gold Medal Award is a prestigious honour that recognises individuals who have made significant strides in engineering and technology.
Chong's outstanding academic performance and potential to shape the future of engineering caught the attention of the IEM. His journey extended beyond academic accomplishments, encompassing holistic personal growth and enthusiastic involvement in extracurricular pursuits. Through unwavering determination, he achieved a CGPA of 4.0, establishing a remarkable benchmark for academic distinction. This exceptional feat was further complemented as he received esteemed accolades such as the BEM Presidential Award in 2022.
Currently working as an engineer at Hilti IT Asia, this successful journey underscores the practical exposure and quality education provided by APU, preparing students for real-world challenges.
At the IEM Gold Medal Award ceremony, Chong expressed his gratitude, saying, "When I first stepped into APU, I was just a lost boy who intended to do his very best." He credited Dr. Lau Chee Yong, a Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering, APU, for guiding and motivating him throughout his academic journey.
Dr. Lau Chee Yong commended Chong's achievements, highlighting his dedication to excellence, work ethic and intellectual prowess. He added that Chong's story is an inspiration to current and future students.
