APU and Cyberview’s Partnership To Drive a Smart and Sustainable Future for Cyberjaya

Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) is taking another step forward in shaping a more sustainable future, this time through a strategic collaboration with Cyberview Sdn Bhd. Appointed as Cyberview’s ESG Strategic Partner, APU is strengthening its role in supporting the development of Cyberjaya as a smart and sustainable city.
Cyberview, a government-owned company under Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance, has long been tasked with transforming Cyberjaya into a leading global tech hub. This partnership brings together academic expertise, industry leadership and student innovation, with the end goal of creating meaningful progress in sustainability and smart city initiatives.
The collaboration was formalised through a Sustainability Pledge of Commitment signed on 1 April 2026. This pledge reflects a shared ambition to connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications, ensuring that sustainability efforts are both practical and impactful.
At the heart of this partnership is a strong focus on students. APU aims to empower its students to become active contributors to Cyberjaya’s transformation by involving them in projects, hackathons and experiential learning activities. These opportunities allow students to work on real-world challenges such as smart energy systems and waste reduction applications. Meanwhile, the hands-on approach enhances technical skills alongside nurturing creativity and problem-solving. By doing so, sustainability becomes something students can actively shape and contribute to.
A key highlight of the collaboration is the APU Sustainability Hackathon 2026, sponsored by Cyberview. The event provided a platform for students to propose practical, innovative ideas aligned with Cyberjaya’s green city goals, reinforcing the importance of youth-driven innovation in tackling environmental challenges.
Beyond student initiatives, the partnership also emphasises knowledge sharing and industry engagement. Through guest lectures, workshops, site visits and collaborative programmes, students and academics alike gain valuable insights into real-world industry practices, while industry players benefit from fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.
Reflecting on the significance of the collaboration, Prof Ir EUR ING Dr Vinesh Thiruchelvam commented, “The APU–Cyberview collaboration stands as a testament to the power of strategic academia-industry partnerships in creating meaningful impact. Through active student engagement and initiatives that foster technology-driven innovation, the collaboration will generate forward-thinking ideas that support Cyberjaya’s transformation into a greener, smarter and more sustainable city.”
Ms Harjinder Kaur, who played a key role in bringing the partnership to life, also emphasised the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange. She shared, “Joint ESG programmes provide opportunities for students, academics and industry stakeholders to co-create innovative solutions, while continuous knowledge-sharing platforms facilitate the exchange of best practices, case studies and emerging innovations. Together, these initiatives strengthen the link between academia and industry, driving sustainable development and innovation in Cyberjaya.”
This collaboration represents more than just a partnership between a university and an industry player. It highlights the growing importance of ESG principles in education and urban development, while demonstrating how students, when given the right opportunities, can play a meaningful role in shaping a more resilient future.
