APU Battle of the Undergrads 2025

In an inspiring combination of entertainment and social impact, Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU)’s School of Foundation Studies (SoF) proudly hosted Battle of the Undergrads (BOTU), an immersive, medieval-themed charity event held in conjunction with APU’s Neon Run on 21 June 2025 at the university’s campus in Technology Park Malaysia.

BOTU’s unique setting transported participants into a reimagined medieval world, letting students play the roles of knights, adventurers, and heroes on an epic quest for victory through five thoughtfully crafted game booths, including Archery Challenge, Catapult Launch, Castle Raid, Relay Race, and Sword Fights.

The event wasn't just about fun — it also had a meaningful cause at its heart. BOTU successfully raised RM1,200 for regional charitable efforts, thanks to the enthusiasm and support of the 114 students who attended. Many of them joined multiple rounds of the games, showing how engaged and invested they were in making a difference.

BOTU started as the brainchild of Mr Muhammad Danish Johari and Ms Iman Danish, two SoF lecturers who aimed to unite imagination with community engagement. Their shared vision was brought to life by 29 student volunteers who were instrumental in the construction, design and operation of the entire event infrastructure. Notably, the functioning catapult and large-scale cardboard castle were produced with all recycled materials. This commitment to sustainability successfully minimised costs while maximising the amount that went directly to charity.

BOTU stood out not just as a successful charity event, but as a perfect example of what’s possible when students are empowered to take the lead. The overall atmosphere, from the cheers at the sword-fighting arena to the laughter shared around the castle photo backdrop, reflected a sense of pride and community. It has left a lasting legacy on APU’s campus, not only as a successful charity event but as a shining example of what is achievable when you combine creativity with compassion.
