Year 1

Two Level 1 science sequences (four units) from:

Blueprints for Life and Life on Earth
Chemistry 1 Advanced and Chemistry 2 Advanced
Foundations in Psychology and Introduction to Psychological Inquiry

Year 2

Fundamentals of microbiology
Recombinant DNA technology
Scientific practice and communication
One Level 2 or 3 Science Unit
Four Elective Units.

Year 3

Environmental microbiology
Food and industrial microbiology
Two units from:

- Medical microbiology
- Molecular biology and biotechnology
- Science in action research project

Two level 2 or 3 science units
Two elective units.

Overview

Applied Microbiology:

Study microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses.
This knowledge can be used to prevent food spoilage and biofouling, stop the spread of infectious diseases, and solve environmental problems by removing pollutants.

Prerequisites:

The formal prerequisites for Bachelor of Science are at least one of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geography, Physics, Psychology or Mathematics at a higher level (Australian Year 12 equivalent).
Meeting the Monash course prerequisites are also subject to the 5 year rule.
