Melaka-Manipal Medical College (MMMC) has recently announced its new status as a University College and will now be known as Manipal University College Malaysia (MUCM). This upgrade allows MUCM to confer its own degrees and postgraduate degrees by offering programmes beyond MBBS and BDS with Masters and Doctorate degrees.

The new recognition was unveiled and launched by Dr Ranjan Pai, Chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group India, in a digital ceremony that was broadcasted online.

Following the upgrade, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Jaspal Singh shared that MUCM has been in the works to become the exemplary medical institution that produces highly skilled and compassionate physicians in Asia.

“MUCM has been a vision in motion for the past couple of years. With its birth today, we are excited to breathe new life to what is on offer in medical and healthcare education, not only in Malaysia but in Asia. Through the education journey with us, we aim to drive a culture of empathy and continue to mould physicians who are not only highly skilled but also compassionate caregivers to society,” said Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Jaspal Singh.

Prof Dr Jaspal further added that MUCM aims to cultivate a teaching and learning environment that promotes multidisciplinary collaborations by incorporating a contemporary pedagogy approach. This will enrich the students’ learning experience and transform them to become thinkers and visionaries.
