Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) is celebrating a remarkable achievement in the world of finance. Students from APU's School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) have emerged as top performers in the Spring Edition of the CMT Association's 2023 Investment Challenge. This accomplishment not only showcases the students' exceptional abilities but also reflects the institution's commitment to providing cutting-edge financial education.

Chuah Yu Tian, a Bachelor in Banking and Finance (Hons) student specialising in Financial Technology, clinched 1st Place in the Highest Absolute Return category. Meanwhile, Yap Mei Cheng, a Bachelor in Banking and Finance (Hons) student specialising in Investment and Risk Management, secured 3rd Place in the Lowest Max Drawdown category. These talented individuals demonstrated their prowess in navigating the complexities of the financial market.

The CMT Association is a global credentialing body that plays a pivotal role in the financial industry. APU's selection as one of the CMT Academic Partner Programme Institutes reflects the university's unwavering commitment to nurturing students' career readiness and fostering an applied learning process.

The CMT Association's Global Investment Challenge provides a platform for participants to learn and apply technical analysis techniques employed by top investment management professionals. Over the course of eight weeks, students build and manage their investment portfolios. This virtual portfolio management challenge saw the participation of nearly 700 contestants from 36 universities across 50 countries.

Chuah Yu Tian, the 1st place winner, expressed his gratitude and shared his experience, stating, "Winning first place has been a great achievement and experience for me. Through the 8-week process, I've learned the importance of thorough research, strategic decision-making, and staying disciplined in my investment approach." He emphasised the significance of risk management in volatile markets and the importance of staying informed about daily stock news.

Yap Mei Cheng, the 3rd place winner, acknowledged the challenge she faced as technical analysis was relatively new to her at the junior level of her investment and risk management studies. “I have to spend more time looking into the daily economic situation and the stock news to be able to forecast the stock trend. I'm very appreciative that the CMT Association has provided some learning material videos, which have been uploaded to YouTube to help me to get a clear picture of the technical analysis.”

These exceptional achievements by Chuah Yu Tian and Yap Mei Cheng are not only a testament to their academic prowess but also a reflection of APU's commitment to delivering contemporary financial courses that align with professional requirements.
