Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) adds another feather to their cap by securing the coveted title of Grand Champion at Standard Chartered’s ImpactHack 2023, a nationwide hybrid hackathon focused on digitalising Malaysian SMEs.

APU’s Team DoBetter stood out among 100 competing teams with over 350 participants. As a result of their efforts, the team, which includes Hoh Shen Yien (Computer Science - Data Analytics), Khor Zhen Win (Computer Science - Data Analytics), Nicole Ee Sze Mien (Information Technology - Digital Transformation) and Woon Eusean (Computer Science) was awarded a cash prize of RM30,000.

Team DoBetter's winning project, BizFlow, is a data intelligence solution that digitalises day-to-day operations and business processes using AI. The tool incorporates various AI models (including FlowAI, a powerful Large Language Model powered by ChatGPT's API, and a locally trained LlamaIndex) to infuse relevant knowledge about a business’s data into their solution. It also incorporates Stable Diffusion to allow image and video generation. Through a user-friendly interface, BizFlow allows SME’s to automate user actions, send messages, post social media images and provide video recommendations based on user prompts.

Throughout the 48-hour virtual hackathon and the grand final presentation at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), the team demonstrated their remarkable expertise in data science, business, marketing, web development, innovation, and creativity.

Their victory at ImpactHack 2023 underscores the significant role that tertiary education institutions like APU play in shaping the future of digital transformation. Associate Professor Dr. Tan Chin Ike from the APU School of Computing commended, “Team DoBetter's victory in ImpactHack 2023 not only highlights their exceptional skills in the area of digital transformation but also underscores the significant role APU plays in meeting market demands and empowering SMEs from a talent perspective.”
