APU Receives Silver Status From Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) for Innovative Actuarial Science Programme

Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) has earned a prestigious Silver status from the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) for its Actuarial Science programme. This achievement places APU among the 14 educational institutions worldwide recognised by CAS, a professional society of actuaries and the world’s only actuarial organisation focused on property and casualty risks.
APU offers the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Actuarial Studies, a programme that focuses on theory and practical experience with the latest industry practices. The curriculum incorporates advanced modules in data analytics and financial technology (FinTech), making it one of Malaysia’s most progressive programmes.
This innovative approach ensures that students are well-prepared for the constantly evolving demands of the actuarial profession, especially in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. As a result, APU’s Actuarial Science graduates boast impressive employment rates, with many securing positions at leading insurance and finance companies.
“APU’s actuarial graduates have a strong employment record across various industries, and employers’ preferred choice with the majority of them securing positions in the insurance and finance sectors,” says Dr Rajasegeran Ramasamy, Head Associate Professor of the School of Mathematics, Actuarial and Quantitative Studies (SoMAQS).
Another unique aspect of APU’s programme is its Actuarial Product Development module which combines actuarial skills with project management knowledge, further reflecting the institution’s commitment to addressing industry demands. Dr. Rajasegeran adds, “In these industries, actuaries typically focus on pricing, risk management and product development. Recognising this need, APU is the first university to introduce the Actuarial Product Development module, which integrates actuarial skills with project management expertise.”
In addition to a comprehensive curriculum, APU’s Actuarial Science students enjoy the advantage of a dual award with De Montfort University (DMU), UK. Upon graduation, students will receive two degree certificates — one from APU and another from DMU.
